Chris Holdsworth is a lifelong martial artist with a decorated history of many martial arts disciplines and competition success. Some highlights include:

 

  • Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) Black Belt (2009)
  • Undefeated UFC athlete (9-0)
  • Ultimate Fighter 18 Winner 
  • Coached and Cornered Team Alpha Male athletes, including Bantamweight Champion Cody Garbrandt

 

Early Years

Chris started Tae Kwon Do at a young age and later found RYU Dojo a (Hawaiian Kenpo dojo.) Thats where his love and self commitment was found and dedicated his life to becoming a Martial Artist, ultimately earning his brown belt in Hawaiian Kenpo.

 

Chris started falling in love with Gracie Jiu Jitsu training with his first BJJ instructor Patrick King (2004). Pat would take Chris every weekend to the famous Gracie Academy. He was awarded his blue belt from the legendary Royce Gracie (2005), and his purple belt by Rener, Ryron Gracie (2006). At age 19 (purple belt) Chris got a great opportunity to move to Las Vegas and train with the likes of Marc Laimon, Jeff Glover, Bill Cooper, Simpson Go, Sonny Nohara, Scott Bieri ,Sean Spangler, Joe Daddy Stevenson and the list goes on (2007). During the next few years Chris was awarded his brown and black belt by Marc Laimon (Cobra Kai Jiu Jitsu). At age 21 (2009) he was one of the youngest BJJ black belts in the US. During his colored belts in Jiu Jitsu Chris tested himself in tournaments all over the west coast. He won No Gi Worlds at Purple belt , multiple Grapplers Quests and Naga titles, and became a National Pankration Champion. He was also very fortunate working with many elite MMA fighters and wrestlers during his time in Las Vegas. Tyson Griffin, Gray Maynard, Evan Dunham, Din Thomas, Carlos Condit, Martin Kampman, Rico Rodriguez ( Former UFC heavyweight champion), Michael Bisping ( Former UFC Light Heavy Champion) and many others. When Team Takedown moved to Las Vegas and started training with Marc Laimon and Cobra Kai, Chris was one of their main training partners. Shane Roller ( 4 x All American) Jake Rosholt ( 3 x NCAA Champion) and Johny Hendricks ( 2 x NCAA champion who went on to win the UFC welterweight title. 

 

Mixed Martial Arts Career 

Chris started the transition to Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) right around brown belt (2008) and went undefeated in the TUFF N Uff amateur circuit, going 6-0 with all 1st round finishes. He was a 4 time champion in 2 different weight classes with them. 

 

Chris then went pro racking up 3 pro wins all by 1st round submission victories. Looking for ways to always improve he then found his way moving up to Northern California to train with the power house team Urijah Fabers "Team Alpha Male". He had another big win by submission with his new team moving to 4-0. During this time he had the opportunity to train with some amazing coaches and training partners. Chris's Muay Thai really made leaps training with the great Master Thong and 2 time Coach of the year Duane “Bang" Ludwig. Chris was awarded his purple belt in Bang Muay Thai from Duane during his time in Sacramento. At 4-0, all by submission victories, he received an invite for the reality show “The Ultimate Fighter”. Chris dominated the season finishing all 4 opponents by submission leading him to be crowned Season 18 Champion.

 

Chris had one last fight with the UFC and won by decision all while having post concussion issues from multiple training incidents. He made a very hard decision and put his health first and retired from professional fighting bringing is fight career to 15-0 with 14 finishes and one decision.

 

Teaching 

After fighting Chris transitioned to teaching and coaching full time. Chris has been teaching Jiu Jitsu since blue belt with thousands of hours of training and teaching on the mat. After his fight career he became one of Team Alpha Males head coaches and ran the majority of Jiu Jitsu classes. He's now been in over 50 UFC corners and worked with fighters like Paige VanZant, Cynthia Calvillo, Nad Narimani, Josh Emmett, Darren Elkins, Chad Mendes and Cody Garbrandt; Cody went on to win the UFC Bantamweight Championship.

 

Chris is still cornering professional fighters but his main focus and passion is making quality martial arts training accessible to everyone irregardless of age or experience. He opened his own training facility in early 2022 and has quickly become a must-visit location for martial artists.
